Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Wilmington OH
1251 AM EST Fri Jan 2 2026
.SYNOPSIS...
Below normal temperatures are expected through the weekend, with
mainly dry conditions for the Ohio Valley. A slow warming trend is
expected thereafter, with much above normal temperatures by midweek
of next week. Rain chances will increase by midweek and beyond next
week.
&&
.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
Quiet conditions are expected for the near term period with mostly
cloudy skies expected until around daybreak before skies trend
clearer past sunrise. This being said, a mix of sun and clouds is on
tap for the daytime, with temps topping out in the mid 20s near/N of
I-70 to the mid/upper 30s near/S of the OH Rvr. Mid/high clouds will
overspread the region by late in the day with a system passing to
our S by this evening.
&&
.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH 6 PM SATURDAY/...
The system tracking E through the TN Vly will stay to the S of the
local area through the short term period with dry conditions
persisting locally through Saturday. Temps tonight will dip into the
teens near/N of I-70 to the mid/upper 20s near/S of the OH Rvr before
rebounding to the upper 20s to upper 30s from N to S, respectively,
by Saturday afternoon amidst quite a bit of cloud cover.
&&
.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Mainly quiet conditions will persist through much of the long term
period as several disturbances progress through the Great Lakes
region Sunday into Monday before return flow and ridging nudges into
the eastern CONUS by early next week.
This will bring warmer temperatures and southerly flow starting
Monday, continuing through the end of the extended period. Highs
will rise into the 40s Monday and upper 40s to 50s Tuesday through
Thursday. While lower confidence at this time range, we will start
to see a chance of rain by midweek as the moist southwest flow
continues, especially as several disturbances progress along the nrn
periphery of the ridging.
&&
.AVIATION /06Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
A blanket of MVFR CIGs entrenched across the region will gradually
shift back to the S and out of the area toward 12z and beyond,
leading to a scattering out of the MVFR CIGs by daybreak, with a
return to VFR conditions for the daytime. Some mid/high clouds will
overspread the region into afternoon/evening, with the potential for
some MVFR clouds to graze far nrn parts of the local area past 18z.
Light/VRB winds will go more out of the NW at around 5kts during the
daytime before going more northerly/northeasterly by the end of the
period.
